Solar Panel Price in Pakistan

Curious about Solar Panel Price in Pakistan? Solar panels are one of the most popular means of energy generation nowadays. Residential, commercial, industrial and agricultural consumers are rapidly switching to solar alike. Solar panels help gain energy independence as well as reduce electricity bills by generating free electricity. Based on their abilities to generate electricity and other characteristics, the solar panel price in Pakistan can vary a lot.

If you plan to switch to solar power, then you must know the cause and effect of the price differences. Here, we are going to explain everything that you need to know about solar panel rates in Pakistan.

Why is there a Difference in the Prices?

All solar panels are not created equal. Some panels have a higher efficiency and other have a lower one. Some panels suffer from a higher degradation while others don’t. This and many other factors like these determine the benefits you get from the solar panels you are installing. Just like everything else in the world, you have to pay a higher price for a solar panel which is more beneficial.

Factors Affecting Solar Panel Price in Pakistan

There are a number of factors which cause fluctuation in the costs of Solar Panels in Pakistan. We are going to cover all the major factors here so you can have a better idea about how the pricing works. This will also help you make an informed decision.

Types of Solar Panels in Pakistan

The type of solar panels is a big differentiating factor because the attributes of the panel are dependent upon its type. The various categories in which we can divide solar panels are as follows:

  • Types Based On Manufacturing
  • Types Based On Faces
  • Types of Solar Panels Based On Manufacturing

Solar panels are manufactured in a number of ways. This change in the method of their production affects their properties such as aesthetics, efficiency, temperature coefficient, etc. Not only that these methods are different in their difficulty as well. Based on the manufacturing, we can divide solar panels in the following categories:

  • Thin Film Solar Panels
  • Polycrystalline Solar Panels
  • Monocrystalline Solar Panels
  • Mono PERC
  • Half Cut Mono PERC
  • Thin Film Solar Panels

Thin film solar panels are manufactured by depositing a very thin layer of a semi-conductor, photovoltaic material between two layers of protection like glass forming a flexible and thin solar panel with a wide range of applications. These panels are easy to manufacture and this helps reduce the cost of thin film solar panels in Pakistan. These are also quite easy to install because of their lighter weight and high maneuverability. Although these panels are considered to be the cheapest but their efficiency is also the lowest of about 5% to 7%.

Polycrystalline Solar Panels

Polycrystalline Solar Panels are made by melting down fragments of silicon crystals and cutting them in the shape solar cells. Due to irregular composition of silicon in these cells, their efficiency is lower and they are not very productive. However, their efficiency is higher than that of thin film solar panels and hence they cost more than those panels as well. Polycrystalline panels are one of the earliest panels used in Pakistan market.

Monocrystalline Solar Panels

Monocrystalline Solar Panels have the highest solar panel price in Pakistan. The reason is the fact that they are manufactured using a single crystal of pure silicon which makes them highly efficient with smooth conductivity of electric current. These panels can be anywhere between 17% to 22% efficient. Due to their high efficiency and performance, these panels are more expensive than the polycrystalline or thin film panels. These are, however, one of the most widely used solar panels in Pakistan.

Monocrystalline PERC Solar Panels

Passivated Emitter and Rear Cell or in shot PERC cells are a modification of monocrystalline solar cells. These are produced by adding a passivated reflective layer at the rear of the solar cells. This layer helps in better absorption of solar radiations and a higher temperature coefficient. This results in improved production. The efficiency of mono PERC panels can be up to 5% higher than traditional monocrystalline panels but the cost difference is not a lot.

Half Cut Mono PERC Solar Panels

The latest tech in the industry which is developed by cutting the monocrystalline solar cells in half with the help of a laser cutter and attaching the PERC layer with them. This half cut solar technology further amplifies the shading tolerance, durability and production of the panels. Bright Energy currently offers some of the best half cut mono PERC solar panels in Pakistan.

Types of Solar Panels Based on Faces

We can also segregate solar panels on the basis of their faces. The cost of solar panels in Pakistan also depends upon this metric. The solar panels can be divided into the following two main types irrespective of their manufacturing method.

  • Monofacial Solar Panels
  • Bifacial Solar Panels
Monofacial Solar Panels in Pakistan

Monofacial solar panels are just regular solar panels that we see in our everyday lives. They have a transparent front side along with an opaque back side. They can absorb solar radiations only from the front side and can turn only this sunlight into electricity. These panels are widely used for solar installations as they are cheap and fulfill all the major requirements of the users.

Bifacial Solar Panels in Pakistan

These panels are different from the monofacial panels in the way that they have two transparent sides. They can produce electricity from by absorbing solar radiation from both the sides. Bifacial Solar Panels produce more electricity from a single panel and hence are more expensive as well. These panels are not commonly used because their utility depends upon a number of factors such as the material on which they are installed, etc.

Materials Used in Solar Panels

The solar panel prices are also affected by the photovoltaic materials used in the solar panels. The primary materials which are used in solar panels are as follows:

  • Crystalline Silicon
  • Amorphous Silicon
  • Gallium Arsenide
  • Organometallics
  • Crystalline Silicon

It is also termed as the material of choice for solar panels. The maximum conversion efficiency of solar panels found theoretically is achieved at a bandgap of around 1.34 eV. Silicon is used in almost 90% of solar panels produced today because of its bandgap of approximately 1.1 eV. Crystalline silicon is more widely used than amorphous silicon and is used to manufacture polycrystalline and monocrystalline solar panels. Crystalline silicon has a lifespan of about 25 years without much degradation. It is also highly efficient with up to 22% efficiency to convert sunlight into electricity. Crystalline Silicon is an expensive material as compared to amorphous silicon and so the panels which use crystalline silicon are also expensive.

Amorphous Silicon

This is just regular silicon but in a liquid form rather than a crystalline form. This silicon is used to manufacture thin film solar panels and small panels like the ones which can be seen in a calculator or power banks. Amorphous Silicon is comparatively very cheap but has an efficiency of maximum 7%.

Gallium Arsenide

Gallium Arsenide is even better than crystalline silicon with a bandgap efficiency of 1.4 eV which is quite higher than silicon. Gallium Arsenide panels can produce a much higher amount of electricity for the same amount of material when compared with crystalline silicon. Despite being highly beneficial, gallium arsenide is not used a lot because it is very expensive. This is because Gallium is a material which is even rarer than gold.

Organometallics

These are considered to be the solar materials of the future. Organometallics such as soluble platinum are highly efficient, cheap to produce and easy to install. These are metal conjugated polymers which can have a bandgap ranging between 1.4 to 3.0 eV. These materials need lots of development for now but once their mass production begins, these can be cheapest solar panels in the market with a very high efficiency.

Dollar Price

The exchange price of the dollar in the market is also a major factor that affects the solar panel prices in Pakistan. The reason is that all the solar manufacturers sell their products in dollars which is the central currency of global economy. With the dollar price on an all time high, the cost of solar panels in Pakistan has also increased a lot. This is also due to the lack of any local solar manufacturers in Pakistan. If we were making our own solar panels, it would have been more affordable than importing solar panels.

Inflation

Inflation is on an all time high now. In some countries like Pakistan and UK it is 40% more inflation with electricity prices increasing up to 50%. This causes an increase in the solar panels rates in Pakistan. The reason is the fact that with inflation the cost of manufacturing and installing solar panels goes up. Companies have to pay the higher electricity bills, more salaries to the manpower and in a nutshell all of their expenses increase. This makes companies, especially manufacturers to increase their prices.

Taxes and Duties

The taxes we pay on solar products in the form of custom duties, import taxes, sales tax and more are all contributors to its increasing and decreasing prices. The taxes assigned by the government may go up or down along with the policies of the government in power. By keeping an eye on the news related to taxes on solar panels, you can save money while buying solar panels in Pakistan.

Giving a Fixed Solar Panels Price in Pakistan is Not Possible

    Solar Panel Price in Pakistan

No solar company in Pakistan can provide a fixed price of the solar panels. The price they quote lasts for one week to fifteen days. After this period, you cannot buy the solar panels on the same price and you will have to get a new quote. This is because of all the fluctuations that happen with the solar panel costs in Pakistan. By giving a fixed companies are at a risk of taking huge losses because of such rapid changes in the market price of the panels. On the other hand, if after giving a fixed price, companies change the price later on, they are also at a risk of damaging their reputation. Due to this reason, giving a fixed price does not make sense in the solar industry. You can get a price quote for a fifteen days max and after that you will need to get a new quote no matter the supplier.
